Tucked away in the busy shopping center on the northwest corner of 61st and Sheridan is a joint that has the potential to take your lunching experience to a new level. Boston Deli Grill & Market offers a wide, unique variety of sandwiches, salads, and soups. Not only that, the Market side of the business offers some incredible meats, vegetables, and mouth-watering Evening Chalkboard Specials.
Before I delve into my lunching experience, allow me to express my appreciation for the Market’s unique menu. After a busy day at work, you can swing by Boston Deli and grab specials like Smoked Salmon Quesadillas with goat cheese, carmel onions, apple horseradish creme and mango salsa, or Blackened Sea Scallops on bowtie pasta with cilantro pesto, roasted pine nuts and roasted pepper puree. If there’s one thing I know, it’s that meal options like those sure beat slaving away in the kitchen after a hard day’s work. Yes sir, they do.
Now, onto lunch at Boston Deli … it’s a real delight. Unlike many lunch venues that offer cramped seating and a rushed atmosphere, Boston Deli has plush, spacious booths in a truly sophisticated, yet relaxing atmosphere. During my visit on a cold January day, I decided I couldn’t go wrong with the Applewood Roast Beef Au Jus, served on a baguette with melted cheddar. Dipping those tender layers of roast beef into the hot au jus, I forgot all about the chills of the outdoors. The only warning I will offer is that if you try the Roast Beef Au Jus, be sure to have plenty of napkins nearby! Things can get a little crazy when sandwich dipping is involved (at least for clumsy ol’ me!)
My friend and lunch adventurer selected the Applewood Smoked Turkey Breast. One great aspect of ordering a sandwich at Boston Deli is the extensive bread choices available: Health Nut, Sourdough, Jewish Rye, Pita, French Baguette, Pumpernickle, Jalapeno Cheddar, Ciabatta or Croissant. Naturally, being a little cooky and on the healthy side, my friend selected the Health Nut. Another perk to Boston Deli sandwiches is that all of the meats are custom smoked, grilled or oven roasted on site, so you can definitely taste the freshness!
While we only indulged in sandwiches on this occasion, I’m looking forward to trying some of their other offerings in the future, like Tabouli, Beer Basted Grilled Bratwurst, and a Reuben on Jewish Rye.
